Parallel to the Day of German Language, the germanophone singing talent was searched and found on Sunday, 22rd of April 2018 in Ho Chi Minh City. With the song “City of Stars” from the award-winning film LaLaLand, the winning team was able to win the hearts of the jury and the audience. A total of ten vocal groups have started, which together gave songs of German pop, hip-hop and Schlager music.

The participants could not have been more diverse – pupils and students who have only been learning German for six months and even long-time learners of German. They all came from a variety of institutions: the University of Social Sciences Sciences and Humanities Ho Chi Minh City, the Vietnamese German University (VGU), the Goethe Institute, the International German School (IGS) and the PASCH schools.

The germanophone singing contest serves to promote and increase the popularity of the German language in Vietnam. Sponsors such as the DAAD Information Centre HCMC, the Consulate General of the Federal Republic of Germany Ho Chi Minh City, the Goethe Institute, adidas, the bookstore Fahasa and the restaurant Anre Maisen enabled not only the basic realisation of the competition, but also the endowment of attractive prices.

Mrs. Daniela Scheetz, Deputy Consulate General of the Federal Republic of Germany reports after a successful ending of the event:
“The enthusiasm and effort the participants devoted to their presentation of popular German songs in the competition was very impressive. It was a fantastic event and a celebration of the German language in Vietnam, suitable for the ten year anniversary of the partner school initiative PASCH of the Federal Government.”
