The DAAD has been offering scholarships for students and scientists from Vietnam and the region for a study and research stay in Germany for many years. The focus is on the high-quality scholarships for doctoral students who receive comprehensive funding for a doctoral degree in Germany for about three years in Germany. The scholarship holders are chosen independently of their subject and solely on the basis of their scientific quality.
The DAAD also offers master’s scholarships, but only for selected courses at German universities within the framework of the programs “Development-Related Postgraduate Courses” and “Sustainable Water Management (NaWaM)” as well as the “Helmut Schmidt Program”.
Young students of German studies can visit a university summer course in Germany with a DAAD scholarship and, for example, deepen their language skills.
Finally, the DAAD also offers Vietnamese scientists a scholarship to support research stays in Germany for up to three months.
Around 30 fellows were honoured on May 26 at the Vietnamese-German Centre at Hanoi University of Science & Technology as part of a festive ceremony. They received their scholarship certificates from the German Ambassador Christian Berger, from Anke Stahl, from the DAAD headquarter in Bonn, and from the head of the DAAD regional office, Stefan Hase-Bergen. All of them had earned their scholarship through particularly good academic achievements or a convincing research project and will soon be leaving for Germany for their study and research stay. A first group of DAAD scholarship holders is already studying or researching in Germany.
It is very gratifying that this year the DAAD was able to significantly increase the number of its scholarships for Vietnam and the region compared to previous years.
